There were 44 teams from high schools and universities that competed in this year’s 2009 Shell Eco-marathon Americas.
There were 28 vehicle entries powered by combustion engines, five by fuel cell/hydrogen technology, three by LPG, three by solar power, and two diesel fuel.
Category winners of interest:
Fuel Cell/Hydrogen – The Penn State University Team, Blood, Sweat & Gears, led by faculty advisor Leland Engel, PA B ’82, which achieved 1,912.9 mpg.
Solar Power – The Purdue University Team, Purdue Solar Racing, which achieved 4,913 mpg.
