Two Tau Bates have been chosen to receive the prestigious Fannie and John Hertz Fellowship. From a pool of almost 600 applicants, only ten were selected as 2009 Fellows.
- Eric Eason, CO B ’09, plans to graduate from the University of Colorado at Boulder with dual degrees in applied mathematics and engineering physics. Eason will turn 18 three days before graduation.
- Dan Roberts, NC G ’09, will defer his fellowship for two years to study in the United Kingdom as a Marshall Scholar.
In California, two Tau Bates are in the news:
- Chris Voigt, MI G ’98, is part of a team of researchers that have published a paper for the biomass industry. Voigt, an associate professor at UCSF was the principle investigator, “Synthesis of Methyl Halides from Biomass Using Engineered Microbes.”
- Julie Schoenung, IL A ’83, has been selected to serve on an advisory panel to guide the state of California toward the adoption of a “green chemistry” program. Schoenung is a professor at UC Davis. Read full press release.
