Worcester Polytechnic Institute associate professor Kristen L. Billiar, NY D ’91, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for the 2009-10 academic year.

Billiar will spend the year at the National University of Ireland Galway on research and education related to tissue engineering. Read news release
John Schuring, NJ A ’74, professor at NJIT, has been named the 2009 Educator of the Year Award from the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Schuring is a professor of civil and environmental engineering and longtime faculty advisor to NJIT’s student chapter of ASCE. Read press release
In an announcement by the federal Department of Energy laboratory, a more efficient way to convert algae into natural gas has been developed and will be marketed by a joint corporation venture.

One of the companies working on the algae project is Genifuel Corp. President of Genifeul Jim Oyler, PA A ’67, had this to say about the new gasification process,
“Alagae and other aquatic biomass hold significant promise for our country’s ability to produce renewable energy domestically.”
