University Distinguished Alumni; May 2009

The University of Delaware Department of Mechanical Engineering chose five as Distinguished Career Alumni for 2009.

Selected based on achievement, impact, uniqueness, and interest, three of the five honorees are Tau Bates.

E. Fenton Carey, DE A ’67, national policy-maker in defense, energy, transportation, and the environment.

John W. Gillespie, Jr., DE A ’76, professor and director of the Center for Composite Materials at Univ. of Delaware.

Eric Svendsen, DE A ’71, CEO of Foster Wheeler Energia in Madrid, Spain. Read news release for more information.


At the University of New Hampshire, Joe Paterno, Ph.D., NH
A ’63, was recognized as the 2009 College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) Distinguished Alumnus. He was a chemical engineer and vice president at Norton Company before retiring in 1991. Read news story
