Dr. Chris Swan, MA D ’84, associate professor at Tufts University, will lead a three-year study “to determine the extent to which service-learning might help engineering programs attract and retain students, particularly women.”
The study will be funded through a National Science Foundation grant. Co-investigators of the research team are Chris Rogers of Tufts, CA G ’84, Linda Jarvin, Gay Lemons, Adam Carberry, and collaborator William Oakes, IN A ’97.
The two points of research will be to investigate if students enrolled in programs equipped with a service learning component as well as rigorous technical focus are more motivated about the profession and confident in their skills.
