Image Problem: Parents and Kids Not Thinking Engineering

A Harris Interactive online survey, conducted in 2008, found that 85% of kids surveyed were not interested in a career in engineering.

Also alarming, are findings that only 20% of adults surveyed have encouraged their children to consider an engineering career. There were also gender differences found in career interests and intent of children related to engineering perceptions.

The survey was conducted on behalf of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). In efforts to raise engineering-career awareness, ASQ is offering a “Real World of Engineering” webinar free for the rest of 2009.
