University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Dean of the College of Engineering wants to improve the quantity and quality of graduates entering the workforce.

Dr. Paul Peercy, WI A ’61, will try to incorporate three approaches to help improved UW’s engineering college:

  • Building a Pipeline from K-12 students
  • Increasing Capacity at the College
  • Broadening the Curriculum, stressing hands-on teaching

Three university teams shared top honors at the recent 2009 Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts Academic Linkage (or RASC-AL).

The contest is sponsored by NASA and the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA). This year’s competition took place in Cocoa Beach, FL.

Students from Georgia Tech and North Carolina State formed one team and won the graduate division. First place for the undergraduate division went to students from University of Maryland. Read article for more information on the winning aerospace projects.

A new academic university focused on technological fields and the rapid advancement in areas such as biotechnology and artificial intelligence, welcomed its first class of students.

Singularity University has a goal “to train emerging leaders in business, government, and academe” in efforts to “dream up new technological applications.”

The University is modeled after the NASA Ames campus, and located in near by Moffett Field, California. Read the full article in The Chronicle of Higher Education.
