Remembering Joachim K. Mark

The first ever Grenadian-born Tau Bate, Joachim K. Mark
(DC A ’63)
, passed away June 26, 2009.

“Sonny,” as he was called, was presented with a Letter of Recommendation for the insignia of the Spice Isle Award in honor of his patriotism and love for Grenada by the Prime Minister of Grenada, Tillman Thomas.

Mark worked in the New York Department of Highways until 1998. Starting in the mid-1960’s until his death, Mark participated in a multitude of political, social, and cultural activities.

Among these activities was his public service to Grenadians. He arranged for the entry of 422 Grenadians to the United States in a 40 year period. Offering free room and board, and often paying for education and training.
