Forty years ago, on July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts in the lunar module, Eagle, landed on the moon.
Neil Armstrong was the first to step off the lunar module and onto the moon. He was shortly joined by Buzz Aldrin, MA B ’62. Together the two astronauts spent almost 21 hours on the lunar surface. Read more

Tau Beta Pi member Wernher von Braun, MI G ’32, was from Germany. After the surrender of World War II, he and his scientists were brought to the United States.
At NASA he helped develop the Saturn V, which powered both the Apollo 8 mission around the moon, and the Apollo 11 mission that put the first men on the moon. Learn more about von Braun
