In a joint effort to improve the health of the Great Lakes ecosystem, the Great Lakes Protection Fund is giving a team at Wayne State University $1.48 million.
The team, lead by engineering professor Carol Miller (MI G ’79), is developing computer software to reduce energy use in the Great Lakes system. Currently, it pumps 675 million gallons a day with 126 communities in eight counties. Read article

Vice President of Brown and Caldwell Consulting Engineers’ Wester Business Unit, Tracy M. Stigers (NY Q ’79), has received the Golden Knight Award from Clarkson University.

A Clarkson alumnae, Stigers’ work focuses on the planning, evaluation, design, and construction of municipal and industrial wastewater facilities. Read the full news release

With an eye toward using a more environmentally friendly mixture in the production of flexible pavement, researchers at Missouri University of Science and Technology are investigating the guayule plant.
The goal is to use rubber and resin from the guayule plant to help pave roads and replace or minimize the use of asphalt in pavement mixtures. Read article
