The Boy Scouts of America have announced that Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr., IN A ’46, has made a $50 million contribution toward the completion of a new National High Adventure Base located in West Virginia.

The Bechtel family has a tradition of Scouting, as Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr., became an Eagle Scout in 1940, has been awarded the Silver Buffalo Award, and the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. Stephen’s uncle, Kenneth Bechtel also served as National President of the Boy Scouts of America from 1956-1959.

In an article from The Chronicle of Higher Education, “academic experts, business analysts, and economic forecasters helped identify five emerging areas of study for tomorrow’s bachelor’s-level majors.”

The major’s areas of study are: service science, health informatics, computational science, sustainability, and public health.

Emeritus professor of physics at Oregon State University, Rubin H. Landau (NY D ’65), started the computational-physics program at OSU and describes the field as, “a modern way to solve problems.” Read the full article

The Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) would like to announce the Adviser Grant Program, Social Responsibility: The Power of the Association of College Honor Societies to Make a Difference.
