The design engineer for this “engineering landmark” was David B. Steinman, NY A 1906. Steinman was published on suspenion bridges and designed the bridge to remain stable in winds of up to 150 miles per hour. Read more about the “Mighty Mac”

The Boeing Company has announced that Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Scott Carson will retire at the end of the year.

Jim McNerney, Chairman, President, and CEO, has named Carson’s successor. Included in the shuffle is Dennis A. Muilenburg, IA A ’86, who will become the new president and CEO of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems (IDS).

Muilenburg had been the president of the Integrated Defense Systems’ Global Services & Support unit. He also led the “overall engineering development of Boeing’s program to modernize global air traffic management systems. Read the full press release

Chairman and CEO of Parsons, Chuck L. Harrington (CA M ’81), announced that the company will be named one of the “Most Admired Employers” in the fall 2009 Diversity Careers issues of Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology, US Black Engineer & Information Technology, and Women of Color.

Parsons was selected for the honor based on a reader survey. Harrington cited the company’s six core values, including diversity, as a reason for Parson’s commitment to “diversity in workforce composition.” Read news release
