Researchers at Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) have been working on measuring crowd noise at PSU’s Beaver Stadium.
The team installed sound meters throughout the stadium before the recent Penn State/Iowa football game. In a steady rain, the team remained in their places for the entire game.
After the game, the team announced that the maximum noise level was 110 decibels, “which is similar to the level experienced in front of a speaker at a loud rock concert.”
Read the article for more as the research team prepares for its next sound measurement game, November 7, against The Ohio State University.
