In the News: Aluminum Ice Propellant

Researchers, including Steven Son (UT B ’88) of Purdue University, are continuing to explore the use of “aluminum-ice propellant known as ALICE to power rocket launches in a more environmentally friendly” fashion.

“In the bigger picture, we’re looking at technology that can store hydrogen long term,” said Son.

Funding has come from interested parties, NASA and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. The research teams at Purdue and Penn State University will continue working on “hydrogen fuel cell for long duration space missions.”
