A recent study by the Urban Institute points to low enrollment of women in engineering colleges as the main cause for the under representation of women in engineering.
The study was published in the Journal of Engineering Education, and highlighted in the most recent issue of PRISM magazine, from the American Society for Engineering Education.
It is important because the recent focus has been on women leaving the field of engineering, not recruitment. Read article

In recognition of outstanding achievement in the field of biomedicine, Assistant Professor Kevin Janes (MD A ’99) has been named a recipient of the Packard Fellowship for Science and Engineering.
Janes’ research at the University of Virginia focuses on “trying to understand how the hundreds of different signaling molecules inside a cell work together as a network to coordinate a cell’s decisions in response to environmental changes.” Read news release

Anthony Guerino II, PA B ’86, has joined the international law firm of Greenberg Traurig, LLP in its Houston, TX, offices.
Guerino is known as an energy attorney and engineer with extensive experience in “cases involving energy and upstream oil and gas matters.” Read press release
