The Darfur Stoves Project is in the news for its continued efforts to “improve the safety and well-being of Darfuri refugees by providing cookstoves that use three times less fuel then a traditional three-stone fire.”

The nonprofit organization has improved efficiency of stove production by having “flat-kits” produced in Mumbai, India, and shipped to Darfur for assembly. The goal is to distribute 9,000 more stoves for 2010.

Alice Agogino, NM B ’75, is on the Board of Directors and Scott Sadlon, NH B ’03, is part of the Operations as field engineer.

The West Virginia Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi is receiving news coverage this month for its continued partnership with Positive Spin in Morgantown, WV.

The goal is to supply kids with bikes for the holiday season. Last year the partnership produced a record 70 bikes for kids.

WV A president Aaron Reardon on the benefits of giving bicycles to children for Christmas, “I think any kid can learn a lot from riding a bike. It’s something they enjoy getting for Christmas, it’s not a small present.”

This week, ESPN the Magazine announced the 2009 Academic All-Distric 1 Men’s soccer teams.

Two Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute soccer players were selected. Senior Sean Fleury, NY G 2010, was named to the first team and sophomore Brad Shelofsky was named to the second team.
