NASA has announced that the Space Shuttle Mission STS-129 is scheduled for launch today.
The Space Shuttle Atlantis and its six-member crew will deliver equipment to the International Space Station and retrieve station crew member Nicole Stott to return to Earth.
The mission will be commanded by Lt. Colonel Charles O. Hobaugh, MD G ’84, veteran of two previous shuttle flights. Read mini-profiles of entire crew

In a recent article from The Virginian-Pilot, the story of Dr. John C. Houbolt, IL A ’40, and his role as a NASA engineer, to get Americans to the moon is highlighted.

According to the article, Dr. Houbolt is somewhat of a forgotten man, but it was his persistence that saved the U.S. government money and enabled NASA to put American men on the Moon, and win the ‘space race.’
