Tau Bates In the News, November 2009

This past weekend, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) awarded nine industry leaders with the Society’s College of Fellows award. Read news release

The recognition includes lifelong membership and is awarded based on contributions to the field of manufacturing. Three of the nine Fellows are Tau Bates:

David E. Cole, MI G ’60

Albert Wavering III, VA B ’83

John C. Ziegert, IN A ’69

Wright State University has been designated as an Ohio Center of Excellence in Human-Centered Innovation as a result of a partnership with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

The new center “will support the mission of the 711th Human Performance Wing at Wright-Patt and provide increased opportunities for technology transfers to Ohio-based companies.”

Dr. Jennie Gallimore, OH M ’89, will be the center’s director and summarized the potential research, “The center will focus on developing systems and technology for human use, while considering needs, capabilities, and limitations.”

In a follow up to previous announcement of the new Volkswagen Automotive Innovation Laboratory (VAIL) at Stanford University, a glimpse of future technology to be developed.

Researchers at VAIL and MIT’s SENSEable City Lab are working on technology that would put a robot-riding shotgun passenger to make drivers “happier, safer, and to create a symbiotic relationship.”
