Dr. David Laughlin, PA Z ’69, has been named the 2009 Distinguished Scientist/Engineer by the Electronic, Magnetic, and Photonic Materials Division of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS).

Dr. Laughlin was recognized for his “overall contributions to the field of magnetic materials” at the TMS Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. He is a professor at Carnegie-Mellon University and editor of the Springer journals Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A and B. Read news release

An aerospace-related blog post from Hearst Seattle Media, LLC, is reporting that Gulfstream’s G650 completed its first flight this past week.

Gulfstream Sr. Vice President, Pres Henne (IL A ’70), said that “we consider this flight a success and look forward to pursuing our full flight-test plan.”

According to Gulfstream, “Henne is credited with the design, development, test, and certification of the Gulfstream V aircraft.” Read more about the G650

Using data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau, and others, CareerCast.com recently released its list of the most stressful and least stressful jobs.

Using criteria from 21 different job demands, it was determined that being a surgeon and a commercial airline pilot are the two most stressful professions.

On the other end, computer systems analyst and software engineer were among the least stressful occupations.
