A recent entry in the, U.S. News & World Report, Professors’ Guide obtained advice from Edward Crawley (MA B ’76), professor of engineering at MIT, for undergraduate engineering students with high career aspirations.

The ten strategic suggestions include extra tips for using social media and developing effective communication skills. Read the full list, which includes, “work in teams as much as you can” and “make your summers productive.”

This week the Alabama Department of Transportation Director, Joe McInnes, had an important message for civil engineering graduates: “we have a spot for you.”

At a luncheon-meeting of several engineering groups, McInnes was adamant that he was looking to hire and train civil engineers. Read article

The home building industry may still be suffering, however, according to the U.S. government’s Energy Star program, construction of green homes recently surpassed the 1 million mark.

The Energy Star label is only given to homes that are “at least 20% more energy-efficient than other new homes.” According to the Program, 75,000 new green homes have been built this year.

A recent USA Today survey also indicates that existing home owners are working on making their homes more energy-efficient. Read full article for more
