Two engineering professors at Carnegie Mellon University “are developing a computerized training tool to help cryosurgeons improve their techniques and realize better clinical results.”

They have been awarded a grant from The National Cancer Institute to continue their work. The goal is to offer cryosurgeons a practical way of practicing “using ‘cryoprobes’ to freeze and destroy cancerous or undesirable cells.”

A nuclear engineer at Sandia National Laboratory has collaborated with the Idaho National Laboratory library to digitize the “series of (nuclear) reactor wall charts originally published in issues of Nuclear Engineering International during the 1970s and 1980s.”

Scheduled for release in January 2010, word is starting to spread about NASA’s Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game.
