The idea of ‘geo-engineering’ as a last resort to cutting carbon emissions on Earth made it onto NBC’s “Nightly News.” A segment on December 26th highlighted several proposed ways “mankind (could) engineer nature.”
According to network correspondent Donna Friesen, the coverage means one of two things, “either invest more into this type of science, or just go with the company line that NBC and other media outlets have been promoting and cut carbon emissions.” Read article

The University of Colorado announced that its Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics has received a NSF grant over three years for work on the “Colorado Student Space Weather Experiment.”
The project involves “students building tiny spacecrafts to observe particles in space that should give scientists a better understanding of solar flares and their interaction with Earth’s atmosphere.”

The USA Today reported on a nationwide trend of universities adding “new majors and minors in green studies.”
According to the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s director there are two factors for this increase, “Students want the courses, and employers want the trained students,” said Paul Rowland.
