The National Science Foundation is funding a new “first-of-its-kind microscope that could ultimately help scientists develop better solar cells for converting sunlight to electricity.”

The grant will go to South Dakota State University to “build a new photoactivated scanning probe microscopy tool.”

A California-based company has developed a new way to use and store the sun’s energy. SolarReserve is awaiting approval to begin building a new solar power plant in Nevada.

The plant will use new “technology that uses salt to store the sun’s energy.” The goal is to eventually have the plant supply green energy to power 75,000 Nevada homes.
