Worcester Polytechnic Institute has announced that professor Diran Apelian has been selected to receive the 2010 Robert Earll McConnell Award from the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME).

Dr. Apelian is being “recognized for working tirelessly for over 40 years dedicated to teaching, mentoring future engineering leaders, advancing the science and technology of material science and engineering…”
He will be presented the award February 16 in Seattle, at AIME’s annual banquet.

A research group at Brigham Young University have announced a “breakthrough after devising a cheap silicon microchip that can analyze particles at even low concentrations.”
The paper can be found in the recent edition of Lab on a Chip, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Daniel Maynes, Ph.D., (UT G ’91) is a co-author on the paper and an associate professor at BYU.
