This week, The New York Times reported on a recent study about algae production in the journal Environmental Science and Technology.

The report “suggests that algae production is energy intensive and can end up emitting more greenhouse gases than it sequesters.”
According to the lead author on the paper, this is due to the use of fertilizers.
