Early this morning six astronauts aboard the space shuttle Endeavour began the final year of shuttle flights.
The STS-130 mission will be adding on to the International Space Station, delivering supplies and experiments, and making three spacewalks.

Robert L. Behnken, Ph.D., Lieutenant Colonal, USAF, (MO G ’92) is lead spacewalker on the mission and is responsible for the installation of the new space station room and lookout. Read full article

The Washington Engineering Institute (WEI) is a new school offering training and certificate programs in the engineering, survey, construction, and design fields.
The school was started by Dave and Katherine Bren to offer “continuing education classes for professional engineers.”
Dave Bren, WA A ’94, is Institute Director and Instructor and was formerly an assistant public works director in Blaine, WA, and former civil engineering teacher.

This past weekend, the Cal Poly Society of Women Engineers (SWE) announced the 2010 class of Outstanding Women in Engineering and Technology. Read press release
Of the five honorees, two are Tau Beta Pi members:
Allison Holmgren, CA M 2009, an industrial engineering graduate and former intern at Raytheon Missile Systems (AZ).
Jessica Paz, CA M 2009, an industrial engineering graduate and National Science Foundation scholarship winner.
