Michigan State University announced this week that they have received a grant from the National Science Foundation “to establish a center for the study of evolution in the natural world and in digital worlds.”

More than 30 researchers will be involved with the center that is being dubbed BEACON. Read the article for more information on the projects and research to be conducted at the new center, which plans to bring “together biologists with computer scientists and engineers…”

Students and an engineering professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute are using science technology to help the U.S. skeleton team gain an edge on the competition at this month’s Olympics.

Using a smaller replica track, a wind tunnel, and air blasting at over 100 kilometres per hour, the researchers are able to provide “real-time aerodynamics” to the athletes.

Officials at the University of Colorado Denver have announced plans for the University to launch a bioengineering department.

The article explains the plans to “bring together engineers as well as medical clinicians, surgeons, and researchers…” for the new department.
