There are hearings this week in Washington about the future of NASA.
According to the AP, NASA representatives are trying to answer questions about new technology, future destinations, and goals. “President Barack Obama plans to divert billions of dollars from the Bush moon plan toward developing better rocketry.”
Last year, retired Lockheed Martin Chairman Norman Augustine, NJ D ’57, led an independent spaceflight panel in laying out NASA’s future. This included “canceling an immediate return to the moon and instead proposing a flexible path.” Read full article

A new partnership between the BYU College of Engineering and Technology and Thanksgiving Point is offering free Family Engineering nights.
The first of five was held this week at the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point. Hands-on activities are taught by BYU students to children and their families.
BYU professor, Ron Terry (UT B ’73), discussed the motivation for the new series, “There is a need for elementary-aged children to learn more about engineering and technology before they get to high school.”

Thomas R. Macdonald, CA G ’84, has joined the board of directors for CHiL Semiconductor Corporation.

Currently, Mr. Macdonald is vice president of Intel’s Architecture Group and general manager of the Platform Components Group. Read full press release
