Caltech has announced that the new Warren and Katherine Schlinger Laboratory for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering will open March 9, 2010.

Dr. Warren G. Schlinger, CA B 1944, is an alumnus of Caltech, was an instructor there for five years, was critical in the development of the integrated gasification technology, and was recognized as a 2008 Tau Beta Pi Distinguished Alumnus.

Festivities are scheduled as part of the dedication for the new building.

Dr. Steven B. Sample, P.E., (IL A ’62) has announced that he will retire as president of the University of Southern California this coming August (2010).

Dr. Sample has been president of USC since 1991 and “is widely credited with bringing about an institutional rise” to the University.

Oregon State University and its head of nuclear engineering, Jose Reyes Jr., are working on nuclear reactors.

Dr. Reyes is CTO of a company working on a nuclear reactor. He also helped secure funding for a small-scale nuclear reactor as OSU.
