Engineering FYI, April 2010

ExxonMobil and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) have announced a new award “for diversity retention in engineering” to be awarded to three universities in 2010.

A partnership has existed between Exxon Mobil Corporation and the NSBE since the 1980s, and the new award will “recognize programs focused on retaining minority engineering students.”

The 2010 Top Ten Scholars Award from the Boise State University Alumni Association has been announced and will be awarded at a reception on April 20.

“The Top Ten Scholars award is one of the highest honors given to a Boise State (senior) student.” Shatakshi Goyal, ID G 2010, has been named one of the ten scholars for 2010.

She is an electrical engineering major, former Barry M. Goldwater Awardee (2009), NSCS merit scholar, and was the presenter of the petition that resulted in the installation of the new Idaho Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.

Established in 2008, the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award Trust has asked Tau Beta Pi to announce the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award for 2010.

“The award will recognize current or former higher education faculty members who have inspired his or her students to make a difference in their communities.”
