Several Tau Beta Pi members doing their graduate work are highlighted. Ashley DeVierno, FL H 2008, now at Rochester Institute of Technology is working on here thesis involving “eliminating waste from small consumer electronic products, like iPods and cellphones.”
Jeremy Guest, MI G 2005, is a doctoral student at the University of Michigan, “researching how to recover potable water, nutrients, and energy from waste water.” Also profiled, is Heather Bischel, CA A 2005, who is a national board member of Engineers for a Sustainable World and pursuing a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
Steve Skerlos, IL A ’94, an associate professor at Michigan, is mentioned for his efforts to “set up a dual master’s program in sustainability.”

According to a recent report, the National Center for Airborne Laser Mapping (NCALM) is moving its operations to the University of Houston.
The NCALM is supported by the National Science Foundation. Dr. Ramesh Shrestha, FL A ’76, is the director of NCALM and had this to say about the move, “With the center, we have brought laser mapping’s uses to the forefront and expect to continue to have this impact in our new Houston home.”

Earlier this month, the Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation announced the 2010 Udall Scholars. There was a record 537 candidates nominated by 256 colleges and universities this year, and only 80 students were named Scholars. See full list here
