The American Academy of Arts & Sciences has announced the 2010 class of Fellows and Foreign Honorary Members. Read the announcement

Dr. Sunney I. Chan, CA A ’57, Professor Emeritus at California Institute of Technology.

William A. Goddard III, Ph.D., CA E ’60, Professor at California Institute of Technology.

Arthur L. Goldstein, NY G ’57, Chairman, President, and CEO Emeritus at Ionics, Inc.

James Michael Moran, Jr., IN G ’63, Professor and Chair at Harvard University.

David N. Seidman, NY E ’60, Professor at Northwestern University and Member of NSF Materials Research Center.

John Warren Wilkins, IL G ’59, Ohio Eminent Scholar and Professor at The Ohio State University.

Dr. Jeanette M. Wing, MA B ’79, Professor at Carnegie Mellon University and Assistant Director at the National Science Foundation.

There are 28 Fellows for the 2010-11 academic year.

The Governor of Ohio, Ted Strickland, has “announced the designation of five Centers of Excellence in Enabling Technologies.”

The five Centers of Excellence are: Case Western Reserve University: Institute of Advanced Materials; Kent State University: Liquid Crystal, Bioscience, Nanotechnology; Ohio State University: Materials, Manufactured Technologies and Nanotechnology; University of Akron: Globally Distinctive Polymer Sciences and Engineering Applied in Regional Industry Clusters; and University of Cincinnati: Nanoscale Sensors.

Also, Youngstown State’s Materials Science and Engineering College was identified as “an Emerging Center of Excellence.” Read article
