The American Association of Engineering Societies (AAES) has announced its annual awards.
The highest award in the engineering profession, the John Fritz Medal, went to ultrasound pioneer Gerald J. Posakony. The Fritz Medal was established in 1902 and 52 of the 108 winners are Tau Beta Pi members.
The AAES also announced the National Engineering Award for “inspirational leadership and tireless devotion to the improvement of engineering education…” to Dr. Charles M. Vest, WV A ’63. Dr. Vest is currently the president of the National Academy of Engineering and a former president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Other AAES awards were as follows:
Norm Augustine Award: Dr. Karen Panetta, MA D ’85
Kenneth Andrew Roe Award: Daniel D. Clinton, Jr., P.E. (TX D ’52)

Alpha Lambda Delta, the National Honor Society for First Year Students, has announced the selection of 23 fellowship winners for the 2010 academic year. See the full list
Three of the winners are Tau Beta Pi members:
Erica Cho Brown, OK A 2010, the Gladys Bell Fellowship
Bradley Jordan Collins, SC A 2010, the Warner O. Moore Fellowship
Stephanie Niezgoda, OR G 2010, the Barbara Quilling Fellowship

Phong Pham, NJ G 2010, has been named the Newark College of Engineering’s Outstanding Senior in Mechanical Engineering.
Phong plans to graduate in May with a double major in mechanical and electrical engineering respectively. He is president of the New Jersey Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Pi and of the local chapter of Pi Tau Sigma.
He is currently applying for graduate study and plans to pursue graduate degrees in mechanical engineering with a concentration in Control Systems.
