Engineering FYI, April 2010, Part II

This week the University of Utah hosted a Mechanical Engineering Design Day to showcase senior projects and other students’ robot designs.

The multitude of mechanics, electronics, and computers, on display was a testament to the hard work of the engineering students involved.

A story from the MIT Technology Review, profiles a new start-up company that is trying to “engineer a system that could convert carbon dioxide directly into any fuel (that we) wanted.”

Noubar Afeyan is the CEO and Co-Founder of Joule Biotechnologies, Inc. Dr. Troy J. Campione, LA B ’82, is Senior Vice President in charge of business development strategy and execution.

Through a partnership between the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and The Princeton Review, there is now “a guide to 286 U.S. colleges and universities that have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to sustainability.”

According to the information, all of the institutions highlighted are “exemplary green institutions.”
