The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Association of American Universities (AAU) are set to release a new handbook that “offers in-depth, cross-referenced legal resources to help promote effective diversity programs for science faculty and students.”

The handbook aims to help guide universities in increasing diversity in the STEM fields. Read the news release for more information on the handbook and where to download each section online.

Two Tau Beta Pi student members were recently recognized by their universities for outstanding academic accomplishments.

Daniel Gerber, AL B 2011, was recently named a Goldwater Scholar. He works as an undergraduate research assistant to Dr. Paul Hubner, FL A ’90, at the University of Alabama and is a 2010-11 Tau Beta Pi Scholar. Read the news release

David Karp, NJ D 2010, has been selected as the valedictorian at Princeton University and is scheduled to speak at Commencement on June 1.

Karp is a mechanical and aerospace engineering major, 2009-10 Tau Beta Pi Scholar, and ranked first in his class with a 4.0 GPA. Read the article from The Daily Princetonian

The Governor of Oklahoma recently wrote an opinion piece in The Edmond Sun congratulating the Oklahoma College of Engineering on its 100th anniversary.

His submission was entitled, Engineering a brighter, more prosperous future. Governor Brad Henry reflected on the “many achievements” of engineering in the last 100 years and reminded readers that “the key to future success” rests in STEM education. Read more
