A student team from the University of Central Florida traveled 11 hours to Huntsville, Ala., to participate in NASA’s University Student Launch Initiative.

The UCF team was composed of students from the aerospace and mechanical materials departments. Their rocket reached over 2,000 feet in altitude upon launch.

There were a total of 20 teams competing this year and everyone at the banquet got a chance to meet and listen to five-time astronaut James D. Halsell, Jr. (OH H ’85), current vice president of Space Exploration Systems for Alliant Techsystems Inc. (ATK). Read the full article

Blount has been at New York University as dean of the undergraduate college and vice dean of the Stern School of Business since 2004.

A researcher at the University of Florida recently published an article in the journal of Advanced Materials about new technology that could make night vision devices much lighter in weight.

Franky So has adapted technology found in flat screen televisions to “create a thin film that converts infrared light into visible light.” Read more from Discovery News
