Earlier this week officials at Mississippi State University took part in the ground breaking ceremony for a new Science and Technology Center.

According to the article, “the new building will allow graduate and undergraduate students to receive more specialized training in the fields of engineering biological sciences and also in social sciences…”

The efforts of engineering students at two separate universities in two separate national competitions were highlighted.

Athena is the nae of the Formula One-style racer built by a team of engineering students at San Jose State University. The team recently traveled to New Hampshire to compete in the Formula Hybrid competition. Read the article for more about the hybrid cars “powered by a combination of gas and electricity.”

At Virginia Tech students are in the second year of the EcoCAR Challenge. Currently the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team is working on integrating an engine into the design of a car, similar to a Chevy Volt. Read the profile

The New Mexico State University Alumni Association has announced the Outstanding Seniors for the spring 2010.

A senior from each of New Mexico State University’s academic colleges was selected. In the College of Engineering, Jeremy Bruggemann (NM A 2009) was selected. He is a mechanical engineering major and has volunteered as part of a local K-12 program.
