Spotlight: Awards & Education

Lamar University recognized three graduating seniors with awards for exceptional service at the 2010 Toast to Leadership Awards Program. Two of the three winners are Tau Beta Pi members:

Georgia Gilzow, TX Z 2011, was recognized as the outstanding senior woman. She is double majoring in mechanical engineering and physics and has a job lined up after graduation as an electrical engineer.

Ritchie Acosta, TX Z 2011, was recognized as the outstanding senior man. He is a civil engineering major, is an ambassador for the College of Engineering, and plans to pursue a master’s degree in structural engineering.

The 2010 Awardees for the National Defense Science & Engineering Graduate Fellowship (NDSEG) have been announced by the American Society for Engineering Education and the U.S. Department of Defense.

Officials at Wayne State University have announced the “first graduate program to train electric car engineers” in the nation.

The program will launch this fall, offering a master’s degree in electric vehicle drive engineering. The program is receiving funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and several other partners.
