The American Iron and Steel Institute’s Steel Market Development Institute has awarded David C. Jeanes, P.E. (MA Z ’73) with the 2010 Market Development Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jeanes is currently retired president of the Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI). Current SMDI president, Lawrence W. Kavanagh, said “David Jeanes was the catalyst for and the driving force behind the industry’s commitment to growing the markets for steel.”

This week a student team from Mississippi State University took first place in the second round of the 2010 EcoCAR: The NeXt Challenge.
The team earned a total of 844 points out of a possible 1,000, and were clear winners ahead of the second place team (691 points) from Virginia Tech University.
MSU faculty adviser Dr. Marshall Molen, P.E. (TX B ’68) said, “I’ve never been so proud. These are some of the finest young men and women you’ll ever encounter.”

Five professors have been named as the 2010 Shaw Prize laureates. The Shaw Prizes are awarded annually in three categories: astronomy, mathematical science, and life science and medicine. Read more here
