A group of students from Utah State University are part of the Get Away Special Team that is preparing for a flight in NASA’s “Vomit Comet.” Visit the team’s website here

Undergaduate Justin Koeln, UT G 2011, is team leader of the FUNBOE (Follow-up Nucleate Boiling On-flight Experiment) project and had this to say about the June 17th flight in the microgravity aircraft, “This is about as close to space as you can get without being an astronaut.”

The Eagle (Bryan/College Station, TX) recently announced that J. Scott Vitter Jr., IN G 2010, graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Vitter received two awards at graduation: the George P. Marshall Award – to the senior Army cadet officer for excellence in leadership; and the Patrick Dixon Award for the outstanding Army ROTC cadet for the school year.
Vitter will report for duty as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and will enter the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers later this year in Missouri. Read more

Last week, Rensselaer Polytechnic announced that three members of the women’s and men’s track & field team had been selected to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 1 College Division Track & Field First Teams.
Two of the three are Tau Beta Pi members:
Garrett Harms, NY G 2011, dual major in nuclear and mechanical engineering is a multi-event competitor and winner of the Decathlon at the New York State Championships.
Casey Lewis, NY G 2010, a biomedical engineering senior is a pole vaulter and won his first individual title this year at the conference’s indoor and outdoor championships.
Both students are now eligible for National Academic All-America consideration. Read the full news release
