President Barack Obama “intends to nominate” current Dean of the School of Engineering and the Vannevar Bush Professor of Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Subra Suresh.
Dr. Suresh would become the next director of the NSF if confirmed by the Senate and would succeed Dr. Arden L. Bement Jr., CO A ’54, who is the new Global Policy Research Institute Director at Purdue University.

Popular Science recently highlighted the winning team of the University Rover Challenge 2010 (URC).
A team of engineering students from Oregon State University won the fourth annual competition. This year the event was held in “the remote southeast Utah desert.” Teams built rovers and had to perform missions of which their completion was scored.

The University of Wyoming has announced that Dr. Charles Dolan (MA Z ’65), H.T. Person Chair and Professor of Civil and Architectural Engineering, has co-authored the 14th edition of Design of Concrete Structures.
The textbook was recently released by McGraw-Hill. According to Dr. Dolan, the textbook “is one of the oldest continuous running copyrights in the United Stated dating back to 1924.”
The other co-authors include: Dr. Arthur H. Nilson, NY D ’48, and Dr. David Darwin, NY D ’67.
