The New York Times reported on nationwide engineering programs at school districts targeting younger students.

Highlighting a new program in Boston that has “ready-made lessons” for schools to purchase. In the state of New Jersey, it is mandated that all students be exposed to engineering by the second grade.

The article also presents the argument that good teaching is more important in developing engineers, than pushing an engineering curriculum at a young age.

Hanson is a junior mechanical engineering major at Carnegie Mellon University. He competed at the Division III Championships for swimming for the third straight season, is a two-time All-American, and is this season’s University Athletic Association champion in the 400 IM.

A press release from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, profiles the work on an engineering associate professor on “helping stroke patients regain use of their hands and arms through virtual reality-based video games.”

The study is on-going, however initial subjects have “shown positive changes in motor function following participation.” The research uses robots, simulated piano keyboard screens, and other therapies, for strengthening exercises.
