Engineering in the Classroom, June 2010

Florida A&M University is hosting a two-week program this summer as part of the nationwide ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp.

The program is for underrepresented middle-school students. The students take part in STEM-related projects. Dr. Decatur B. Rogers, TX K ’67, is overseeing the camps and is “impressed with the Houston-based Harris Foundation, which helped create the camps’ curriculum.”

“It’s based on educational research. They’ve been able to capture most of the pedagogy you need to run a successful pre-college program,” said Dr. Rogers. “The kids seem to be taking to it pretty good.” Read more here

The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors has conferred the “University Distinguished Professor emeritus” title on Dr. Ali Nayfeh, CA G ’62.

Dr. Ali Nayfeh

Dr. Nayfeh has authored over 1,00 publications, given 124 invited talks, and been part of the Virginia Tech community since 1971.
