KSL-TV in Salt Lake City (UT) recently highlighted the work of a mechanical engineering team at the University of Utah in making their ROCR robot climb up a wall.
Several potential practical applications exist for a robot that can scale different surfaces. The team of researchers has been working on the current backpack-sized machine for about a year. Learn more here

Oregon State University announced this week a new research center “focused on environmentally friendly wood-based composite materials.”
The project was funded by NSF, and OSU will partner with Virginia Tech on the research initiative.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has partnered with Stellenbosch University (South Africa) “to research better ways of tracking leopards, with the ultimate goal of helping to protect the leopard population.”
The professors and students from South Africa have been working at RPI for the last two weeks, on developing a collar capable of tracking the large cats. Read full article
