The cement is a “milky precipitate made from injecting carbon dioxide from power plant emissions into seawater.” Not only would production of green cement capture carbon dioxide, it would also be sold at a profit according to its creator Brent Constantz.
Constantz’s company, Calera Corp., has already received federal stimulus grants and has signed agreements with engineering and construction firms, including Bechtel Corp.

The new “marriage counselor” role of ergonomic engineers is helping “settle disputes between designers and assembly-line workers.” New research and studies include the use of computer generated manufacturing modeling, robust design principles, and welcome feedback from plant employees.

A new device for monitoring the structural integrity of bridges has been devised by an electrical engineer at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Medhi Kalantari’s work was recently profiled by The Baltimore Sun. He “calls (small devices) lightweight, low-power, wireless sensors that he hopes will detect weaknesses in bridges and other infrastructures.”
