The Huntsville Times reported on the opening of Lockheed Martin’s Medium Air Defense System (MEADS) battle management and test facility in Alabama.
The new missile defense system is a joint effort on the part of Germany, Italy, and the United States to have “the only medium-range air defense system with full 360-degree coverage.”
According to the article, there are 100 positions available at the new facility, including engineers.

The Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University has announced that it will induct two new members to its Academy of Distinguished Graduates on September 9.

One of the inductees, Mark E. Ellis (TX D ’79), is a Tau Bate and president and chief executive officer of LINN Energy LLC. He has more than 30 years of experience in the oil and natural gas industry.

The Federal Aviation Administration has announced eight institutions that have been chosen “to jointly study the emerging field of commercial space transportation.”
Participating universities include: Univ, of Colorado-Boulder, New Mexico State Univ., Stanford Univ., Univ. of Florida, Florida Institute of Tech., University of Texas at Galveston, and others. Click here for more
The universities will support and be involved with work at the recently formed Center of Excellence for Commercial Space Transportation “to study space launch vehicles, operations, traffic management, and human space flight.”
