The Illinois Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at the Illinois Institute of Technology is hosting two October events on campus.
Mole Day, on October 21, the chapter will provide food to students and a special prize to anyone that can guess the correct quantity of candy in the jar. This Saturday, October 23, the chapter will host a Tau Beta Pi Engineering Future’s session on effectively facilitating a meeting. Learn more about these event by clicking here

Purdue University announced plans this week to open a West Coast Partnership Center in Mountain View, CA.
The new center will be run by John C. Boyle, IN A ’80. Boyle is currently on the city council and is vice mayor of Menlo Park, CA. He is an alumnus of Purdue and has worked as an electrical engineer for numerous corporations, including Hewlett-Packard and General Motors.
The goal of the facility will be “to connect Purdue’s engineering and technology programs with Silicon Valley.” Currently, there are approximately 18,000 Purdue alumni in California.

Through a Ford Foundation grant, Kettering University students will work “to install a geo-thermal system powered by solar energy at Flint’s (MI) largest urban farm.”
Kettering senior industrial engineering students will work on the project as part of their senior design course. The solar panels should generate enough electricity to heat the farm and help grow local produce during the winter.
For the students, they “get experience in implementing solar and geothermal energy and thinking-out-of-the-box.”
