Former NASA astronaut William A. Oefelein, OR A ’88, and engineers at Orbitech have begun testing on a human-in-the-loop testing of the environmental control and life support system (ECLSS).

The system is part of the Bigelow Aerospace’s Sundancer inflatable orbital module that is scheduled for launch in 2015. Read more here

This year’s annual Research Review Day, at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), was recognized by the National Research Council “for excellence in its electrical engineering and computer engineering programs.”

Researchers are finding new uses for graphene. The 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to researchers who first studied its use.
Now researchers are making graphene transistors. “They’ve used graphene to make a transistor that can be switched between three different modes of operation, which in conventional circuits must be performed by three separate transistors. Read the full article here
