Earle S. Freedman, MD B ’50, is director of Maryland’s State Highway Administration office of bridge management. He is 80 years young and a recent article commemorated the 60th anniversary of his hiring.

In addition to being Maryland’s longest-tenured employee, Mr. Freedman is “generally recognized nationally as one of the foremost bridge engineers in the country,” State Highway Administrator Neil J. Pedersen (PA H ’74) said.

At Tyndall Air Force Base (FL), October’s energy awareness theme was “Think Green, Build Green, Fly Blue.” Maj. Gen. Timothy A. Byers, KY A ’81, is “responsible for installation support functions at 166 bases worldwide and has developed a plan for Airmen to build leaner installations, find cleaner sources of energy and make smarter decisions when planning and using energy.”
