Engineering FYI: November 2010

The Wall Street Journal published an article profiling the Bechtel Corporation and its president of the civil (engineering) unit, Mike Adams.

In the article, recent projects such as the first ever Albania motorway are highlighted. The freedom of being a privately held business, as opposed to a public company, is also discussed.

Concluding that (building infrastructure) is “very socially useful and satisfying; you feel you are contributing to society,” said Mr. Adams.

The University of Maryland’s Department of Aerospace Engineering’s Space Systems Laboratory was named by Popular Science Magazine as one the top five most “awesome college labs.”

NASA engineer Kim de Groh gave a presentation to kids and their parents about the Hubble Space Telescope this week at the Imagination Station (Toledo, OH).

A NASA senior materials research engineer, de Groh, also talked about her current assignment, “analyzing insulation in space for 19 years.” Her appearance was covered by a local TV news station, click here for more.
